A New Impulse in the Hotel Sector
Puerto Plata, a province located in the northern part of the Dominican Republic, has experienced a decline in its hotel sector over the past two decades. However, President Luis Abinader has announced promising news that could change the course of this situation. In addition to the increase in cruise ship tourism in the area, construction has begun on the Punta Bergantín tourism project, which is destined to give Puerto Plata a new boost.
Punta Bergantín is a tourism and real estate development project that will be carried out in an area of 8 million square meters. Its main objective is to achieve an integral development in the destination, which contemplates the construction of approximately 4,500 hotel rooms, 2,000 residential and mixed-use tourist units, as well as 2,500 additional units. It also contemplates the creation of a golf club, public access beach clubs and a unique theme park village in the area.
This plan has been described as an opportunity to boost local tourism and, in particular, to promote the economic development of Puerto Plata by creating thousands of jobs. It is important to note that this is a completely private project, which will include an academic campus to promote education and innovation in the country. It will also include a movie studio, an 18-hole golf course and adequate road infrastructure.
According to Samuel Pereyra, general manager of Banreservas, Punta Bergantín will have a total of 4,000 rooms, which makes it a project of great importance and potential for the region’s tourism industry.
The location of Punta Bergantin is on the beach of the same name, a beautiful beach with calm and clean waters located between Playa Dorada and Sosua. Prior to this project, few outside of Puerto Plata knew of the existence of Bergantín beach. Currently, it can be accessed from Montellano or at kilometer 7 of the Luperon Highway, near Playa Dorada. However, due to the road conditions, it is recommended to use high clearance vehicles or 4×4 to reach this beach.
One of the most exciting aspects of Punta Bergantín is the inclusion of film studios that will be managed by renowned actor and producer Vin Diesel. In addition, an innovation center will be established that will bring together technology companies, national and international universities, thus turning the destination into a reference not only for tourism, but also for innovation and entrepreneurship. This initiative aims to create a “Silicon Beach” in the region.
In summary, the Punta Bergantin tourism project represents a great opportunity to revive the hotel sector in Puerto Plata. With its comprehensive development, job creation and inclusion of state-of-the-art facilities, this project promises to bring a new economic and tourism boost to the province. Grupo Puntacana, a pioneer in tourism and financial development, is leading this initiative that seeks to transform the remote and paradisiacal corner of Puerto Plata into a destination of international renown.
